Raspberry Pi OS • Re: Disk Encryption

So the rest of the install routine went as expected, I provided the passphrase and everything went like the docs describe.

Only thing that doesn't work for me right now is the unlock via usb. The stick itself is detected but it fails to unlock (bad passphrase or something is the message). So I guess I messed up and copied the wrong key for customizing the image. Guess I will now just add a new key to the present installation as to the docs that should be supported, then I test the unlock and if that works fine head back again to square one and create a customized image including the correct key so it can be then unlocked via usb's.
Sounds like you don't have the correct key on the USB disk. That's completely out of sdm's control and yet another demonstration of sorts of GIGO
Is it correct that setting a passphrase is necessary? So I can't have a system that only can be unlocked via usb key?
Yea, sorry about that. It's a restriction of cryptsetup, in that it requires a passphrase when adding the USB key to the encrypted rootfs.
In all I'm quite impressed what sdm offers and specially how good it is documented! It's rare to find such extensive docs for programs in general (not only foss!) and it was very helpful on my journey so far as I literally found an answer to all questions that raised in my hand.

Chapeau for creating such a powerful tool(set) which is very straight forward to use and very well documented.
Thanks! I'm still excited by all that sdm can do, and how easy it is to minimize the time required to bring up a new system with it that's configured exactly as you want it to be.
I keep you posted on my further success and ones again: THANK YOU VERY MUCH @bls for including the proposed unlock option via usb. You describe it quite well in the encryption docs, so many pitfalls and outdated docs it is more then just painful (or like for me even impossible) to do this manual/hard way.
Thanks for asking about the USB unlock! It's much more rewarding to add a feature when someone is interested in it.
