I got a Pi3 A+. It boots up fine. Runs updates with no problems. I doesn't seem to have any issues with smaller programs. I can run the SD card test, install apps, but when I fire up Chromium, it takes minutes to open a window, and it never fully load, and eventually to pi freezes (can't move the mouse). I thought maybe Chromium was just being a resource hog, so I fired up Dillo. It can load pages, but when I try to download an app, it freezes on the download dialog. Tried Firefox, won't even open a window before the Pi crashes.
Just to be sure it wasn't an internet connection problem, I used the sneakernet to add the app I'm trying to get (Universal Gcode Sender) right on the SD card at another computer. Pi then boots right back up no problem. I can use the file manager app to get to the UGS app, and when I try to run it... it eventually loads the splash screen, but never fully opens before it once again locks up.
I tried the fully loaded version of Raspberry OS 64 bit, just to try some other demanding apps. It crashed trying to open LibraOffice Write.
I've run the task manager app, and the CPU and Memory never get anywhere close to 100% usage.
I have scoured the web, and I've tried the obvious problem areas:
1. The microSD card I had was old a creaky (failed the card test), so I bought a brand new SanDisk Extreme Plus 64gb card. It tested fine.
2. My first power supply was rated for 2.5a, but as it was no-name I bought a new one rated at 3.6a. I never saw a flashing lightning bolt.
3. I swapped out three different usb power cables.
I've tried all the various Raspberry OS versions recommended for the 3: legacy lite, w/desktop, w/desktop and recommended software, both 32 and 64 bit versions.
For input Im using a Logitech wireless keyboard with touch pad. Pi OS has no problem recognizing it. Monitor cable is HDMI to DVI, no issues with the monitor on bootup. Nothing plugged into the sound port. No wifi issues.
Any help would be appreciated.
