I've run into a problem with the RPi 5 backups I've made; let me provide some background:

I made the first RPi 5 backup on Nov 20, and others on Jan 4, Jan 9, and Jan 19 of this year. My "system" is such that on these dates I made a full/manual/new backup, and then I update the latest image once per day. This would mean that the Jan 4 backup was a full/manual/new backup, and then it was updated until Jan 9. After Jan 9, no more incremental backups/updates are made to the Jan 4 image backup file.

And so - as the RPi 5 is new, I've not had any occasion to actually use one of these backups... until today. Disappointingly, after restoring/flashing the latest backup (to a new SD card), the RPi 5 would not boot. I tried the Jan 9 image, and the Nov 20 image, and they also failed to boot?!?

I made a new image (Rpi OS 64 - Lite) using the Raspberry Pi Imager, and it boots fine. I used Balena Etcher to burn my backup images to the SD card... it's always been reliable, but of course things can change.

I'm sure you tested image-utils on RPi 5, but do you have any ideas why they're not working in this case?
