Beginners • From GPIO To GPIO through LED. Resistance question.

I have set one GPIO to output and second to input.
I connected both through the diode and resistor.
The LED was super dim, for a while I thought something is not working since previously LED would lit very well when connected directly to the ground.

I would like to know what is single GPIO resistance.
Should I connect diode without any resistor In such a cases ?
