Of course this solution requires interactive mode which is only available in the libgpiod v2 tools, and those still aren't available for the Pi via apt.
It really would've been helpful if that had made it into the Pi repositories before the Pi5 was released.
But there is no point whining about water under the bridge - work the damn problem.
On a recent debootstrap generated aarch64 installation (and just apt full-upgraded) you get 'gpiod' 'libgpiod3' version 2.1.3 if running apt install gpiod
The whole issue with RaspberryPi is, it is a vendor kernel and also custom desktop. Few dare to run anything else than the current image or even not that and stick to legacy/oldstable or even oldoldstable. The trend on this forum is then 'waiting mode' for many users, 1 year on average ('Trixie for Pi' ).
What also does not help is that 32-bit RPiOS is not ARMv7, so the users who still base on 32-bit are even more stuck as they can't easily change/add something in sources.list.
