Connecting GPIO lines to an unknown device could destroy your Pi and - you never know - the voltages on this device could be connected to mains: could be dangerous for you.
Use a relay switched from RPI. Connect relay contact in parallel to the switch. Just to be safe: disconnect power from machine and RPI when connecting the relay contacts; place relay and switch in an isolated enclosure.
