Regarding the network upload speed - are you running the latest version 15 of the firmware? You can find details on how to check your firmware version and how to update in this forum post: viewtopic.php?t=378050. The v15 firmware significantly improves the network upload speeds on Pi 4 and below platforms.I am using a Pi4B and not too impressed with the model f/w upload speeds to the camera IMX500. Seems this is not an issue with RPi5 - but my final deployment is over a small form factor Pi zero 2W hence trying to look at alternatives.
Another thing to note is that the neural networks get cached on a flash chip on the AI camera board. So when you upload a firmware for the first time, blocks of the neural network binary get cached, and subsequent runs get faster as the blocks get uploaded directly from the flash chip. However, note that blocks are cached at random to help with flash wear levelling, so you may have to go through the upload cycle several times before the entire model is cached.
