It sounds like the Ubuntu update has been the cause of your issues. There were several posts on here about the normal Ubuntu 24.04 installation not behaving very well, and the version installed by PINN was an updated version that seemed to work ok.Last month I updated my working installation and added some files and new programs into Raspberry Pi. All seemed fine and I was able to swap between different OSes okay. As I'm going on holiday very soon, I decided to do a final update yesterday and copy across some of my latest files but after updating Ubuntu (coincidence?) my system is mis-behaving. I can only get into the basic RPi OS, everything else either goes to the RPI OS or crashes after OS selection; displaying an error page. First line of which reads, "Initramfs unpacking failed: Invalid magic at start of compressed archive" and last line of which reads, "end Kernel panic - not syncing: VFS: Unable to mount root fs on unknown-block(0,0)"
Any ideas how I can recover things greatly appreciated.
Can you still get into PINN at boot up? If so, I suggest reinstalling Ubuntu with the version supplied by PINN (See https://github.com/procount/pinn/blob/m ... idual-oses). You should backup any Ubuntu data files you need beforehand as this will be a destructive operation. If not, you may have to reinstall PINN. Please open an Issue on my github where I can guide you without losing your existing partitions. It sounds like you may have other OSes installed as well, but you have not detailed them. It would be unusual for a Ubuntu upgrade to affect them, but not impossible, especially if it corrupted PINN in some way.
If you open a github issue, it might be useful to attach a log by following the troubleshooting section first, especially point 6.
