Fortunately after many attacks and resulting downtime in industries (most not publicly disclosed but word spreads within industries) this is becoming more common.OR they have very controlled access to controlled internet locations via application-specific software.
A very simple method that we use at work to keep production line PCs safe is to only do updates when a technician comes by with an ethernet cable and plugs the system into the LAN temporarily for the update.
