Ah, the iPad mini2 can only be updated to iOS 12.5.7 and Apple ended update support for it in September 2019. I was using iOS 17 I think.
So I am not sure which version of RealVNC (or other client) viewer can run on that old hardware/software - what is in the Apple store?
