thank you and Merry Christmas!

Good points! sending the hdparm command again does not wake the drive, so I won't worry about sending it repeteadly when the drive is in sleep mode.

The drive is the HUH721212ALE604
https://www.misco.co.uk/cache/pdf/Hitac ... en_121.pdf

I was planning to have a 2h timer to spindown the drive after the last access.
Please note that the drive spinsdown after 10 minutes on Windows as it is WD's default (but it doesn't work on Raspbian).

It's a balance between power comsumption and wear and tear. The idea is that I'll use media from the drive maybe twice a day for 1-2 hours.
So it's safe to have it going to sleep for 4-5 hours when unneeded, what do you think?

Thanks
