Thanks again all.
I decided on the 5 with 8gb RAM (16g felt like overkill all along, and while I can afford it, the point was to make it as close to $100 as possible). Just purchased through Chicago Elect. with Rasp case, Rasp power cable and generic HDMI to mini adapter. With delivery it was $120.82. Going to get a 128gb SD from amzn for $15 and load up the OS myself.
The biggest part of this exercise was seeing if I could build a Linux box that did the same daily tasks, the same performance (if not better), in the same footprint (if not smaller), more quiet (hopefully silent), and CHEAPER than the $200 Geekom Win11 box I will be returning to bezos when this new box arrives
I've always wanted to play around in the Raspberry world, and the geek in me is excited for the first time in awhile.
