The UPS is powering three low power systems as well as the Pi. HP Microserver Gen 10 Plus. It is also connected via USB to the UPS and using NUT. They are all on a power strip which is connected to a single output port on the UPS and the other systems aren't troubled by any power event from the UPS. Projected run time is over 1 hour 20 minutes. The battery is a cartridge, so I have no control over the spade connectors.
It looks like I'm going to have to cut power to the UPS and force an event, which I don't really want to do, but I'm going to have to, in order to capture the error... which was an I/O error. I didn't take a picture of it when it happened because I was under pressure for work at the time and the Pi is running Home Assistant on a SATA SSD attached by USB.
I've got a little leeway at the moment, but ultimately this is going to be controlling my heating so I need to get it stable and trustworthy.
I have been thinking about a pass-through power bank and I've been reading up on what people are using, but I don't really want another small battery in the mix if I can avoid it.
I'll get a breath of time and report back with the errors... but if anyone else has further suggestions in the mean time, I'd be grateful.
EDIT - I'm using a Geekworm case to house the Pi and the SSD is underslung, so there is no room in the case for a hat. I don't have any PoE switches running anyway.
Double Edit - to avoid doubt, it appears that NUT is not reporting the correct UPS model... or more likely that the software just has a limited subset of models. The actual UPS is this one - https://www.se.com/uk/en/product/BR1600 ... e-battery/
