Since DA9090 was made available in the Pi Hut it is rarely in stock which means there is a considerable demand for these chips.
Also, the Pi hut is the only place where you can buy DA9090 at a reasonable price, I mean in Aliexpress it's like 20-25 bucks for a single chip.
I believe there isn't any programming involved with these chips or if it is they are factory-programmed before packaging.
So it should be just a drop-in replacement as it was with the previous PMICs.
About the warranty or the risk, nobody is fighting over that...
I mean yeah manufacturing is mostly an automated process and errors happen and there might be like 1% faulty chips in the whole reel, but that's understandable.
Also, it's understandable that a chip might die if you heat it to 400 degrees for like 5 minutes, but that's usually a violation of the soldering process recommendation in the datasheet and so user error.
I think that's why The Pi Hut is selling them in 5-packs, so you are allowed and expected to make mistakes as nobody is perfect.
And I don't think that an already dead Pi can be made more dead with an unsuccessful repair attempt.
