Run a web server on the Pi with a reverse proxy pointing to the device?

Or even just a simple proxy service.
I'm not sure, but it sounds to me the person making the original post wants to set up port forwarding from the Pi to the other device.
Could try it that way, but a simple proxy service can do that for http traffic. I use HAProxy for things like that. It's just one configuration file.
I understand. Since it's all web stuff things are less likely to go wrong with a proxy service.
