the short answer is: Yes; it should "just work"
Agreed, it's just a matter of selecting the right driver for the Windows PC.

I thought Win 7 included RNDIS drivers, maybe under a different name, only supported that by default, but I may be mistaken. I had a Zero talking to Win 7 using RNDIS so it used to work. I recall I even had a Pico talking RNDIS to it. Unfortunately I don't currently have access to that so can't say what driver it's using.

My recommendation would be to scour Google for other RNDIS projects talking to Win 7 and see what they say about the Windows side of things. For example - https://www.mobileread.com/forums/showt ... p?t=315535
