CEC is the magic thing to search the forum and web for in regards to controlling a TV. But you need an HDMI connection to use it and the TV has to support it.

I had a Pi setup some time ago (couple of years at least) that ran a slide show by booting to the command line and running fbi from rc.local. Still images only and no web browser but no login required so more secure than some other methods and applications. IIRC it was a B+ so a Pi5 is overkill for fbi.
