i'd say try it first with DHCP IP, handed out from your router/modem.
if that works, maybe when you set the static, you didn't set the gateway? or the DNS entries?
both must be set for static to work.
i assume your static is on the same subnet as all the other DHCP devices, just out of the range of the DHCP handouts.
