Another possibility might be a CM4 plugged onto a CM4IO board. That has a 12V input and on-board switchers, though you should check it can take the 14.4V from a fully charged car battery safely or not.
It can. And also the voltage from 2 x lead-acid in series being charged.
As long as you're not using the 12V on the I/O board for anything else.
Spec is somewhere in the data sheet; and also, IIRC, implied on the circuit diagram.

Had a system doing this for about 4-5 years.

Using a CM4 I/O board also gives you a battery backed TOD clock, and is much easier to mount, with nearly all the connectors down one edge. IIRC CM4 + I/O board worked out cheaper than a kludge using a Pi4 as the base.
