That isn't entirely true, it is really only true if you do not use vfs_acl_xattr on the server. There are also the smb3 unix extensions which are being heavily worked on at present, these are experimental at the moment, but should be turned on by default very soon.
Me either. Not least because Samba doesn't handle Linux owner, group, and permissions*.
*: Unless you sue the v1 protocol and the unix extensions. Which you shouldn't. v1 is old, insecure, and deprecated.
