I am an absolute novice when it comes to things like this, but I had an idea that I think maybe RPi can accomplish, but I don't even know the right terms to search for here or on other forums.
My wife and I take lots of pictures when we're on trips, but it's hard to share between ourselves and our devices (cameras and phones) all of the pictures we take from a given trip. So I had a thought that if I could build some sort of storage system that we could send our photos from all our devices to a single hard drive to make it easier to see every picture we have available from a specific trip.
Ideally, I don't want to rely on any of the various cloud-based and expensive services (iCloud, Google Photos, etc.) to do this since A. I wouldn't have local access to the files and B. it would very quickly get very expensive given the number and sizes of the files we have.
So like I said, I don't even know where to begin to search for guides or other similar projects to try to work from. I've seen "media centres," but that doesn't seem to quite fit since it's not something we'll be streaming anything from like a Plex server; I'm not sure if NAS is correct either because those seem more robust and needed for larger and more complicated files than just photos; and I'm not sure if the multimedia forum would be a good search place, either, because it seems at first glance more geard toward music and video production.
Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated!

I have never used it, but perhaps immich might provide some inspiration? https://immich.app/
