My unsolicited generic advice would be to NOT attempt to implement a new design "that monitors everything" as a Big Bang exercise. And certainly not one that might put a vulnerable creature at risk.
My suggestion would be a parallel rig, lacking the inhabitant, which you build - and test - one feature at a time.
