The versions of software in the repository are usually the stable versions; not the necessarily the most up to date. Unless you have a particular reason to use the bleeding edge version; for example; new functionality that you need, then I would stick with the repo version as using a different version can sometimes cause issues.
The repo version on my Pi seems to be 1.0.16.
