you will have to die one death or the other! If the upside down boot Image annoys you then there might be a solution to that soon https://github.com/raspberrypi/linux/pull/7005 with a rotated Image would solve that 'optical issue'.
so remove any changes made to kernel command line, load the overlay automatically (without any parameter). should bring your screen alive, upside down with the mouse plane aligned correctly. use Screen configuration editor for rotating it (one time effort) - done.
