Hello all,
i'm interested in ideas to address remote security. The situation is a small community of lake houses in Michigan that are used mostly by
Chicago residents. During summer, its fine with many people who all know their neighbors, etc.
The issue is winter. There are no local police, and people are on their own until the county services can get there.
There have been some break-ins, and I thought it might be helpful to have a local group to watch over each other.
There are, however, some who stay year round. I'm sure some, who also belong to the lake association, wouldn't mind helping if necessary.
The Raspberry Pi seems like a good solution. It would be nice to have remote access, with personal options as far as schedule, cascaded
notification, remote viewing if recorded data, and whatever else may be useful. Internet access is now reliable and many keep it year long
to control heat, etc. With the latest advances in tech, possibly even BLE, A robust, reliable, and acceptable and cost effective way of doing this should be available.
I have very little experience programming the RPi, and would appreciate some direction as far as that goes. OS, existing software, ideas for
implementation, etc. We have joked in the past that someone could be living in the cottage for months and I would have no idea.
Another consideration is safety of the others in the area. I know that if it isn't a constant hassle, many would use the resource once they get used
to the idea and how to use it.
I did do a quick search, but wasn't able to find a similar thread.
Any experienced advice would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance,
Steve
