From chipgenius (if anyone else wishes to analyze a USB key use that application). This was clearly the original problem of a USB key that was barely ever used under performing. Unless at a firmware level devices are throttling based on age instead of wear which would be absurd, although apple did do this for battery wear and tear.

They are both authentic drives but go figure ones using dated firmware from 2018 and a different flash ID code which would indicate a different revision of NAND was used.

I'll be punting the defective/older one back to them and keeping the newer one. Crystal disk mark was 4x faster for writes and significantly faster for 4k random (although still shitty compared to samsung bar+).
