Troubleshooting • Pi5 using PINN to dual boot

Pi works well with my USB disk, but want to dual boot with 64 debian with desktop and also recalbox5 (retropie not yet for PI)
Struggled to install PINN, but when I used disk image it works, and when PI switched on, both operating systems are there. But I cannot get debian to work
I note that if I used normal install it states swap recovery.cmdline file after downloading it specifically, but when i use the image i dont get the option to do the recovery.cmdline file. (what directory does it go in if i did it after the event)
It just goes to a blank screen with the following
Busybox V1.350 (Debian 1:35.0-4+b3)
Built in shell (ash)
Enter help for list of commands
(initrans fs) help

If I then type exit, it says

Gave up waiting for root file system. Common problems
boot args (cat /proc/cmdline)
- check boot delay = (did system wait long enough)
-missing modules (cat /proc.modules: ls/dev)
Alert part UUID=adfe1724-oa does not exist
dropping to shell

any help and explanation greatly appreciated
