Automation, sensing and robotics • Do I need VS Code?

I have been doing diy projects for 8 years only using Thonny. I have many projects completed using RPi3,4,5 Pico W, Pi Zero, etc. plus ESP32. I have exclusively used Thonny and never had any problems with it. I spent the past three days off and on trying to get used to VS Code. I hope someone will tell me not to bother. Everyone's needs differ. I can understand if someone is working for a big corporation doing major programming, or using multiple languages, etc, but why should I leave my comfort zone? I am 77 yrs old, got into this for my grandson, but liked it too much to quit later when he stalled his interest in technical things. I enjoy my projects but I am not trying to earn a living or sell stuff. So, can I keep using Thonny, or is that like staying on a tricycle and not moving up to a regular bike?
