I got this device working, one thing that may be of general interest is how wildly inaccurate the measurements get as soon as you are outdoors with bright sunlight in places. Below an example.
A span of 19°C to -13°C, while true temperatures had been in the 6-10 °C range.
If I got a better understanding of the underlying physics, I think I might have a chance to compensate it by means of the ambient light sensor data. I'm sure there exists some solution already, those are FIR sensors, so nothing too sophisticated.
