General discussion • Re: Where Might I Find Such Information?

TBH, I'd much rather major changes of this nature were held back until the next named release. Introducing it mid-release makes life harder for those of us trying to help folks out
Though it should mean one less thing those who might face issues with a new named release having to worry about or do battle with.

If someone installs a new imager on a host to install a new named release and that doesn't work it will likely be more of an issue and source of frustration and complaint than a mid-term release given few will have used it before.

Seeing the complaints in the comments on the release announcement and the locked thread it seems clear to me there are issues with the new imager and it's not seen as being as great as Raspberry Pi believe it is by all users.

Such complaints would detract from any new named release if they arrived at the same time.

Part of the problem seems to me that the latest Imager has been released as a fait accompli, take it or leave it, that beta testing hasn't revealed the issues some post-release users have, those issues have been rejected or discounted, haven't been covered by documentation.

My complaint is that I cannot install 2.0.x on Windows 10 without it uninstalling my 1.9.6 and I don't want to jump through undocumented hoops to get 1.9.6 back if I find I don't like it or do encounter problems. Sticking with 1.9.6 now keeps nagging that there is a new version available, and seemingly may have other issues as the OP reports.

It's not available for my Pi OS Bookworm system so I can't test it there, am stuck with the extremely old 1.8.5 version.

Few people like change when it adversely affects them and I have to say Raspberry PI too frequently introduces changes which come as a surprise, aren't expected, weren't known about, aren't documented or the documentation is hard to find or incomplete, which leads to frustration and even unanticipated costs in time and money. I have complained about that before.

This 'netplan' is new to me. I don't know what it is and have no idea if it will affect me or my clients who use my software with Raspberry Pi OS. It keeps on happening.
