The current 'AI' (clippy for the 21st Century) is at best a half-baked (and I'm being generous saying half-baked) solution to a problem no-one in particular is looking for or even asking for (that's despite a certain software companies desperate attempts of adding 'AI' features into everything they sell all to supposedly enhance the end users experience). This is the main problem. Production lines for normal RAM being moved over to the stuff for AI. Anyone who needs RAM that isn't an AI company is going to be sacrificed on the altar of AI profits. One if the worst things about the memory situation, is that some manufacturers have stopped making general purpose memory - preferring juist to cater for the AI type...
When consumers can't afford (or can't be bothered to buy) a new computer/smart phone/gadget due to the ever rising costs (manufacturers can't absorb ever rising component prices and still have a viable business in the long term) of purchasing them, then who are the 'AI' companies going to sell their snake oil too?
If the price of RAM/SSD's keeps going up and up then an entire market that's been around for decades could be wiped out (or severely decimated) all for short term profits for a few manufactures - what will they do when the 'AI' bubble eventually implodes and no-one wants their overpriced products and there's no longer a (big enough) customer base to sell to?
