Troubleshooting • Re: USB SSD lifespans seem poor

Your SSD should not be the problem, but the link between the RPI4 and SSD is suspected. Your 'cable' might have issues, that is the expected and well known risk/issue.
I can speak to the USB-SSD Cables being a risk. I've gone through two of them in about 3 months now. Unplugging then plugging them back in sometimes works, but eventually the system will lose access to the drive. I've had a cable just outright die. I replace the cable with a brand new one and it's fine again for weeks/month. This has happened on two of my RP5s so far. These cheap $7 cables are just that: junk.

Are there any brands out there that people have been using successfully for *years* that they can speak to? I've never seen something like this just go bad so often. MIAOERJING is the brand I've bought thus far. No more.
