Troubleshooting • Re: Pi 5s will not boot from SD.

Thank you all for the responses. I found a forum post similar to that last night and spent some time going down that rabbit hole. The EDID is ok; ie the diagnostic screen looks the same where EDID=ok for the HDMI. The monitor works fine up until it hits that certain point in the boot. The pi also seems to have the same behavior without any HDMI connection at all, as seen by the patterns of the fan and the green light during boot.

Also last night I tried the network boot for the first time, and, like the other methods, once it tried to load the Pi Imager through the network it did the same cutoff. It downloads the imager all the way though, full HDMI and everything through that process, it just cuts when it tries to actually *do* anything. Same spot, same activity every time.

I am using an adapter (ONN brand, female HDMI to male mini or micro whatever the pi takes HDMI) but I'm trying to get my hands on an actual cord. Unfortunately it's Christmas Eve and I live in the middle of nowhere to begin with so stores are unlikely to have them. We're trying Microcenter again this afternoon if they're open. Like I said though, because of the existing behavior I don't know if this will solve the issue.

Any other ideas?
