Thanks -- no idea what cloud-init is or what purging it would do, so I'll have to look into it. The ultimate location for the Pi won't have Internet access in any case, so probably safe.

It was/is meant for automated mass deployment/configuration of computing instances. It is from Canonical/Ubuntu. Real PITA if you know Linux well enough and just 1 board that you anyway tune/configure yourself.
