Thanks for the offer to help with zerotier, but RealVNC was the most straight forward approach to accomplish what I was trying to do.
Anyways, got it working. The underlying problem was that the realVNC icon wasnt showing up. So, got rid of trixie and installed the bookworm OS. Then after re-enabling VNC and a reboot. I had the icon, then I was able to login to realVNC and start a cloud connection. Super easy on the bookworm OS, couldnt get it working on the trixie OS. I'm sure there is a way to get it working on trixie, but I'm perfectly happy using the 32 bit bookworm OS, which is perfectly suitable for my needs.
