Hi, Beginner here, I am running the latest Raspberry Pi OS (Dec 2025).
As far as I know, the virtual keyboard used is "squeekboard" by default.
I want to use a numeric keyboard, but everything I tried so far failed.
I ran accross this blog: https://world.pages.gitlab.gnome.org/Ph ... orial.html
On the whole filesystem I do find only two folders containing the word "squeekboard":
/usr/share/doc/squeekboard/: Seems not so interesting
/usr/share/misc/squeekboard/: Contains all the yaml keyboards layouts
I do have German set as Language and it loads the correct keyboard file (with a special key to switch to Ä ä öÖ and so on)
But when I try to change the layout, it does not load the changed layout. I changed all de*.yaml files, also in the subfolders (terminal, emoji, ...) so that the 'o' becomes an x. Reboot, tried to restart the service, the keyboard layout does not change.
Also, on the keyboard, I clicked on the Globe and switched between the different layouts, nothing.
I found posts saying that the layouts are located in ~/.config/squeekboard (or something similar), but I do not have this folder.
Any help appreciated!
