And yes, it works, for FUD's sake, don't need any fancy hardware to test it.
Can do a loopback with 2 wires from UART0 to UART1 on a single Pico board, can even use USB in the same time.
Sure. But I don't have the time or inclination to write and debug the code to do that. And it would be so much easier for someone with a Pico which has 0.1" pins fitted, and a Debug Probe or USB-to-UART module, who has experience of using UART with a Pico, to test things.

It is of course the classic problem when RTFM does not suffice and a manufacturer does not employ staff to specifically provide solutions for users of their products. It falls upon the community to provide solutions and their willingness and generosity to do that, and that sometimes only stretches so far, even if they would like to do more.

I might suggest raising a request to have such an example as the OP wants on the Pico Examples page is ideally what's required. I personally find such examples only go part way to help when creating out-of-tree and standalone projects but that's better than nothing. Unfortunately I won't be able to do that myself.

With wider scope, some means of allowing the community to add or advertise examples they have created could help build up a larger corpus of useful code which others can use as a foundation to build upon. That would likely be better than Googling with your fingers crossed.
