I was trying to explain that, unlike what you wrote below,

Using your favorite editor, modify ~/.config/wf-panel-pi/wf-panel-pi.ini and include that name of that .desktop file (minus ".desktop" !) on the line that starts with "launcher=". The icon for that item will appear in the same position of that item next time you boot.

it's not the "name of that .desktop file (minus ".desktop" !) on the line that starts with "launcher=" that you must use but the command that is used IN the .desktop file

I see you managed to use the launchers option correctly so we're good!
