Found it - viewtopic.php?p=2100588#p2100588 - Not quite the same but it showed Pico SDK was doing something funky and unexpected.And long, long time ago I remember doing something similar and compilation not generating the expected code. It might not be the same here but is perhaps worth checking what code is generated.
