HereSD extensions are available as well, I'd suggest the shortest you can get.

is an example where an SD card extender caused system errors and crashes.
If I were removing the card regularly, I'd first look into why. Is this an attempt to share hardware between people working on different projects who carry their own cards? Are you regularly switching different versions of Linux?
If you connect the Pi through wired Ethernet then network boot allows switching operating systems without swapping cards. Otherwise, PINN can be used to boot different operating systems from the same SD card.
