As I mentioned, this is what I did. I mounted the original (Jessie) image in a chroot, and ran "dpkg --get-selections" there. I compared that to the current output of that command (on the system in question).Surely there is something that could be done by comparing the original install image ...
But as you see, following this path led to a destroyed system.
