What has this got to do with Raspberry Pi?
OP: Do you have any form of spec for the fan?
Caution: Speed control is NOT the same as tachograph (speed measurement). Some 3-wire fans have one, some the other. Mistaking which one this fan has could have serious consequences. (Four wire fans normally have both.)Surely your off-white plastic 3-pin connector is polarised (only fits one way round), in the same way as any fan with conventional non-transparent leads?
