This sounds like a different problem. Possibly the SD card is faulty. Try creating a file in your home directory on your Pi, anything will do, then shut it down and wait for the ten flashes.
Remove power from the Pi. Wait a few seconds, then power it back on again. Is the file still there? If not, the card has probably detected a fault and locked itself into read-only mode.
