You're lucky that works. The internal pull values are very weak (high value), equivalent to around 50K instead of the 2K that the external ones use.little research and I found GPIOs 22&23 have bulitin resistors.This is command for enable them.
pinctrl set 22 pu
pinctrl set 23 pu
Both displays works well.
Probably good enough for one device on the bus, but you may hit problems with a second device.
