Seems like the devs abandoned this project... The hardware works fine but their software part seems to be abandonware.

Maybe investigate the forked and updated Tutorial linked from that post?


Again, emphasising that I am only reading not basing this on experience -
1. The Raspberry Pi Tutorial is based on the use of the i2C connection, not the serial UART;
2. Have you tried the very basic knock() function to test connectivity?
